Folia is not supported yet.

The server owner installs it as a plugin. Do not shade it into your plugin.
Java Edition. Older than the server needs ViaVersion.
Who sees displays

Java 1.19.4 or newer, older than the server
Install ViaVersion and ViaBackwards on the server. No extra setup. Tested with a 1.21.11 client on a 26.3 server.

Display entities came in 1.19.4. Older clients do not have them.

Bedrock through Geyser
Geyser does not show display entities yet. A Geyser extension is on the roadmap as research.
Very large text can make ViaVersion kick a player. displaymotion refuses text over 32000 characters of JSON for this reason. See How it works.

Your plugin needs depend: [packetevents] in plugin.yml. See Getting started.

PacketEvents is GPL-3.0, so the module that uses it is GPL-3.0 too. core stays MIT, so you can write your own sender. This is not legal advice.
